ΤThe Evening High School – L.T. Karditsa participates as a sending partner in the Erasmus+ KA122 staff learning mobility project entitled “Integration and Multiculturalism” and project code 2021-1-EL01-KA122-SCH-000030701.
As part of the project, four (4) teachers of the school (Ilias Loukas, George Tsiardakas, Elias Sveronis and Evangelos Ioannou) participated in a training seminar in Martinique, France, from 26 April to 02 May 2022. This seminar was organised by the educational organisation Pricalica.
The main objective of the project is the training of participating teachers on issues related to integration and multiculturalism in secondary education in order to improve their intercultural competences, to learn interactive teaching methods and to develop a culture of professional cooperation among teachers, so that they can respond more competently to the challenges emerging in the field of education of students with refugee and migrant backgrounds and to handle educational practices that are relevant to the education of students with refugee and migrant backgrounds.
By participating in this seminar, teachers were able to improve their skills in areas such as:
-
work in a multicultural environment,
-
managing a group,
-
conflict management,
-
understanding conflict and analysing its forms,
-
learning techniques and approaches to mitigate differences and achieve common ground
-
promoting intercultural awareness and the methodology of “theatre of the oppressed” as a tool for dealing with conflicts in schools.
In addition, the contact with teachers from other EU countries gave our teachers the opportunity to compare in a direct way educational systems, methods and techniques of education and to adopt positive practices in the teaching of our students.
The educational methodology was based on:
- in theoretical courses and presentations of examples of good practice
- discussions and comparisons of experiences
- active participation of participants
- the creation of a homogeneous team willing to gather around a project and focus on problem solving; and
- experimenting with strategies to eliminate the risk of conflict.
In addition to the educational process, the teachers were informed about the cultural and heritage of Martinique, and visited in their free time remarkable cultural monuments.
The Erasmus+ European programme is fully funded by the European Commission and the national coordinating body for Greece is IKY.
